Starting School Courses

Our Starting School Courses are designed to help parents understand the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum so that they are best able to support their little ones in key areas of development.

If you’re worried about how schools teach phonics, maths and how children learn to write this course is for you. We look at the Early Years Expectations for the end of Reception and work backwards looking at the key areas of learning in reading, writing, maths and physical development! This gives you a clear understanding of where your child is working at now and what you can do to support their learning over the summer.

Our play based activities and relaxed, friendly classes will mean you leave with a thorough understanding of whats expected of your child and how best to help them achieve during their first year of school. The classes provide games, activities and ideas which you can use whilst out and about over summer to help your child with early reading, writing and maths.

We also provide classes for parents who are interested in transition from reception to year one.

What we will cover on the course

  •  Phonics and the phonics programme in school
  • How fine motor activities can support your child’s writing ability
  • How to help your child with their written work at home
  • How children learn to read, sound talking, segmenting and blending
  • Early counting and number skills plus ways to support this through play at home
  • Troubleshooting common issues and independence skills in school.
  • Worries and concerns you have about your little one

Classes are run by myself Carolyn Whitehead qualified SENDCo and Early Years Specialist Teacher with over 11 years teaching experience in a local Liverpool primary

5 star review  Couldnt recommend these sessions enough. Me and my daughter ruby have been to a few now and she really enjoys all the different activites. For somebody whos very shy and doesnt like new places she loves going to these and joins in more each time we go. I think these sessions are very helpful as theres not much like this out there to attend. Our favourite is the doh disco x

positive review  Yesterday I went on the Year One What to expect transition course with beautiful new beginnings. This was an excellent informative course which I feel was invaluable in helping me prepare my son for this big step. Caroline gave us lots of brilliant ideas to use over the summer to help our children practice the skills they have learnt in reception and will need in year 1. I would definitely recommend these amazing courses and will definitely be returning next year. Thank you so much! Emma xxx

positive review  I attended a Moving Up to Yr 1 course run by Carolyn of Beautiful New Beginnings and it was really helpful. We learnt about what children cover in Yr 1 and ways that we as parents can practically support them. One of the things that I have found difficult during my daughter’s first year of primary school is that there often isn’t a lot of communication between teachers and parents (understandable given their workload). This was a massive change from preschool where parents were involved in learning a lot. I found I didn’t really know how I could support my child other than listening to her read. This course bridges that gap nicely and gives parents easy, fun and practical ideas to help our kids with their school learning. Thank you! 👍
